DEKA RUAI House Project

The RUAI House

Habel Amolo

The RUAI House Project was birthed in December 2017 through DEKA Chairman, Matthew Ocharo. A few interested members within DEKA later came together with a common objective of buying a house for commercial purposes. The House was secured from an estate developer called Willstone Homes and members were able to secure House Number 6 among many houses developed in the RUAI gated estate. This was DEKA’s first investment project and cost slightly above KSh 5 million. Members were able to raise financial resources and eventually acquired the property. We began with over 90 members expressing interest. However, this number got whittled down to 42 members who currently co-own the house.

“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it” ~ Halford.E. Luccock (1885 – 1961).

The move to own the House property was completed in October 2021. Reflecting on this move, the potential of DEKA educators to pull their financial muscles together so as to acquire investment properties or develop real-estates was apparent.

Currently, the house is overseen by a “House Committee” comprising seven members who were selected by members co-owning the property, and these include:

1) Interim Chairperson – Habel Amolo
2) Assistant Chairperson – Joyce Mutie
3) Treasurer – Kennedy Bwanga
4) Member – Angela Njoroge
5) Member – Simon Kabucho
6) Member – Benard Opanga
7) Member – Dixon Kibengo

In October 2021, all investors in this House project agreed that the House be rented to a tenant so as to generate some income. Currently, the House has tenancy and we look forward to having greater investments moving forward. Thank you.

Kind Regards,
Habel Amolo (Interim Chairperson)
